Do you think that January is the PERFECT time to start getting healthy? š
ā Hereās why itās NOT ā
Read this post and NEVER have a failed New Years' resolution againā¦ š
I was talking with a friend of mine the other day and he was telling me how nice it is not to have quite the surge of people in the gym for the new year. (Dang covid haha)
Which got me thinking. š§
Why is it that everyone wants to make changes in January?
Well for most people, they had put it off our gotten off of track over the holidaysā¦ šš„š„§
They tend to be extreme during the holidays so they think their change needs to be proportionally extreme to get back to healthy. (Which almost never works)
Many times this change is made out of guilt because of any weight gain or procrastination they have had over Nov/Dec.
People think that eventually there will be some PERFECT time to start taking care of themselvesā¦. (Hence after the holidays)
But then the busyness of January hits š„
And they fall off of the extreme diet/plan they are on because it wasnāt sustainable with their current schedule. š
THEN they decide that January wasnāt the best timeā¦
āEHH this isnāt working, Iāll start something when X happensā¦ā
OR
āOnce my busy season is over I'll make a changeā
The cycle continues over and over.
Month over monthā¦
Year after yearā¦
Until they get 10-15 years down the road and HAVE to make a change because the stress they have put their body through has finally caught up. š„
This DOES NOT have to be the case for you.
There is hope. š
But first, you MUST fix this harmful mindset. šÆ
The mindset of thinking that there will be a PERFECT TIME to start taking care of yourself.
There wonāt be!
]For every step you take in the right direction, there will be resistance that comes against you. š¤
ALWAYS.
There will never be a perfect time.
This way of thinking gets us to procrastinate because we think there will always be a better time.
But the question you need to ask yourself is:
āHow do I know?ā
How can you know for certain that something else wonāt come up? (Like it always does)
Procrastination is really just a form of pride.
Itās thinking that you know for certain something that will be in the future.
When you really canāt...
Let me back up some of what I am saying with what the Bible says about procrastination. š
āDo not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.ā (Proverbs 27:1)
And
āCome now, you who say āToday or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profitā; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and vanishes away.ā (James 4:13-14)
The fact is, we do not know FOR SURE what will happen tomorrow, or in 3 months, or in a yearā¦
But we do have today. (Whether itās January or any other month)
The best time to start taking care of your health is NOW.
Do you have a window of opportunity to start a taking the right steps in your health?
Small, imperfect steps towards where you want to be will pay dividends in the long run.
